Maisey, American Kennel Club certified therapy dog

Maisey is an American Kennel Club certified therapy dog who works with her owner, Dr Ruth Shook-Orr. Maisey has experience interacting with children, adolescents, and adults in the therapy office as well as in schools, libraries and hospitals. Research has demonstrated that the presence of a dog can have numerous mental, behavioral, and physical health benefits. The presence of a dog during therapy can aid in decreasing anxiety and distress, reduce the production of cortisol (stress hormone), lower blood pressure, and improve emotional regulation, self-confidence and feelings of well-being for clients which can make the therapeutic treatment process more effective. Dog therapy can be beneficial for clients who experience anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, learning disabilities, autism, and physical ailments.
